I am a young professional recently uprooted from Missouri into the great city of Dallas (not that Missouri isn’t great; I love it there as well). As a warning, the title of this blog may be misleading. I love marketing. However, there is more to me than marketing (a lot more). I’m going to focus on business and marketing, but a lot of times the areas of my life collide. And, there will be times when the other areas trump business and marketing. My sincere (or not-so-sincere) apologies.
Marketing is a very ambiguous industry. “What do you do?” “I’m in marketing.” “Ohhh. I see. So, what do you do?” I am convinced that everyone has their own definition of marketing. Let’s complicate it even more. Once that definition of marketing is established, it has the uncanny ability to present itself in entirely different ways based on industry. This is fascinating to me. An ambiguous and changing industry is perfect for a curious mind and an entrepreneurial spirit.
I thoroughly enjoy my current job (college sports marketing) because of the responsibility given, the flexibility to carry out those responsibilities, the general acceptance of ideas and the people. No, I don’t know where I want to be in ten years. I have a lot of ideas and passions and, if God so desires, perhaps some of those will come to fruition some day.
